PV Feed in Tariff (F.I.T.) for solar electric panels installations. FAQ.
What is the Feed in Tariff? The feed in tariff (FIT) is the main UK subsidy available for solar electric systems. FIT is a ridiculously generous solar subsidy, averaging about 21pence per per kWh of solar electrical power that you generate. Plus another 3p if you “export” rather than use the solar energy at home.
How does the FIT work? The Feed in tariff is paid for 25 years. Your solar PV system is independently metered, and on this basis, you get paid a fixed amount per “unit” (kilowatt-hour) of electricity. At 21 p this solar subsidy remains one of the most generous in the world!
PV FIT tariff review. But don’t blink for too long. On 1 April 2012, UK’s Solar PV FIT payments of 21p/kWh become, on that date, conditional on home energy performance level D being in place (about 50% of homes perform worse than D. So there will be extra costs for many people, even though upgrading home energy performance is a good idea. For installations after 1 April, if you don’t supply an EPC of A-D within a year, you will only get 9p FIT instead. The UK Treasury are likely to cut the FIT again in July 2012.
