What is Solar?
What is solar? Here are over 100 rapid pictures in just two minutes.
The first solar challenge, of two.
Here’s the game: I challenge you to find more than 10 pictures in it which really do NOT show anything in them which are ultimately solar powered! Hint: count using your fingers as the pictures whizz by.
It is amazing to think that that virtually everything is ultimately solar. For example, sailing boats and wind turbines are wind powered. (Can you spot the old fashioned wind turbine?) They are solar powered because wind movement is created by solar energy. How? Because the wind moves mainly because of the sun heating different parts of the earth different amounts. The hottest air expands, and because it is lighter it rises up. Then cooler air blows in to replace it. Plants rely on sunlight to allow them to photosynthsise so the pears and the cows are solar powered. Even wood, peat and coal are stored solar energy fuels. Hydropower is a form of solar too. How? Because solar heat is what evaporates water which then falls as rain on higher land, so the energy in the water in the flowing stream is ultimately solar powered. Even the sedimentary rocks shown in the video are solar-created. I made this video because I hope to get people thinking about the fact that solar energy is all around us all the time.
