Today (27 June 08) the price of crude oil surged to another record of $142 a barrel, amid concerns about oil producers’s ability or even willingness to meet demand. Fears were heightened by yesterday’s statement from Libya that they were considering cutting oil production in response to US threats against oil exporters. “Energy insecurity as well as price rises are key factors driving people away from fossil fuels and towards energy conservation, the use of locally sourced fuels and renewable energy” commented Barry Johnston of Solar Twin Ltd today. “We have seen an astonishing surge of interest in solar water energy panels recently. The number of hits at midday on our solartwin.com website were up 80% since last Friday. “It’s astounding” he continued, “we will be recruiting a new group of graduate solar surveyors next month in order to keep up with demand.”
