The UK Government has just been forced by European competition rules to allow a solar panel certification scheme called Solar Keymark to be eligible for grants in UK. Solar Keymark is a gold plated solar panel test of performance and durability, the gold plating being random factory inspections and random panel samples being selected, sealed and taken for independent tests. Solartwin plans to have Solar Keymark for its panels some time in 2008.
Meanwhile the UK government’s 13 months exclusion of Solartwin from the state grants scheme is looking ever more flaky. Our panel, when used as we specify, complies with a solar standard called EN 12975, according to a leading European test laboratory. (There are no solar panel test labs in UK or Ireland.) Having EN 12975 is the prerequisite entry point to Keymark. Nearly all panels on the UK grants scheme have only EN 12975, not solar keymark. Will they all be kept off the grants scheme? Or will this exclusion just apply to Solartwin?
The UK government seem to have stopped replying to our reasoned requests for grants listsing and so we may now be forced to waste taxpayers money on legal action requiring them to reply. Solartwin has the European Standard, is eligible for grants in Ireland but not in UK. W need a level market for inovation, not this anticompetitive shambles where solar technology which has to be plugged into the mains to work at all gets grants while Solartwin’s zero carbon technology does not.
